What will happen during and after a CT Scan?

During the Scan

While your scan is taking place you will be lying on a platform that slides into a doughnut-shaped hole.

The technologist may ask you to hold your breath for a few seconds during your scan. You should try to relax and remain as still as you can. Your CT Scan will take anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on the type of scan(s) ordered by your physician. There is no pain associated with CT scans.

When your scan is complete you may also have to wait briefly to make sure your images are of good quality.

After the Scan

You can resume your normal diet and activities immediately following your CT scan. If contrast was used this will pass naturally through your body within one day.

Your physician will share the results of your CT scan with you at your follow–up appointment or sooner by telephone.
